Times change with the methods. I condemn them too. I think the big difference between now and then, for some, is the option to opt out. I mean several hundred years ago opting out wasn't an option as much as it is now. You grew up and you followed the standards of the community around you... or else. That's not so much the case these days. But it is for some I think. I've known people that have grown up in churches that engaged in shunning. They may mot be shot or burned at the stake for opting out but they do lose their friends and family. That has to suck.
