I've done this by setting the watermelon on end and having something on hand to prop it up, then cutting the hole basically where the stem is. Then I cut deep and wide enough so that most of the neck of the bottle is inside the watermelon but only just so. Place the watermelon on top, hold both bottle and melon firmly and invert. The vodka slowly drains into the melon and it is much less labor intensive. It's also imporant to have the bottom of the cut as flat as possible.
