You can't see the $13 or so trillion, but it's there, and it's increasingly dependent on Internet and data technologies. One of the biggest direct threats to our economic stability outside of market issues is cyberattacks, hacking, DoS, etc. Cripple a corporation's systems and you cripple their operations. Cripple a government's systems, and you cripple their operations. It wouldn't be a stand-still, but it would severely hobble them.

Some companies are completely online. Cripple Amazon's systems and see what happens.

Fuck up Wal-mart's numbers in their distribution systems and see what happens.

Mess around with a union's payrolls or benefits and see what happens.
