I was watching a recent episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians where Kim's 11-year-old sister is starting to wear makeup (LOTS of it), pushup bras, and revealing clothing. It made me reminisce on the days when I first put makeup on.
1. Have you ever worn fake or kiddie makeup before?
2. How old were you when you first started wearing real grown-up makeup?
3. Compared to now, how much makeup more or less makeup did you wear?
4. How old were you when you got your first real bra?
5. How old were you when you got your first pushup bra?
6. Compared to now, how did you dress back then?
7. What about your peers? What did they think about your changing looks? Did they have their own changing looks as well?
For me: I wore kiddie makeup as far back as I can remember. It was always the same kind. Strawberry scented sheer lipstick with edible candy blush and a plastic mascara wand and tube and those fake glittery nails with those sparkly stickers. My friends and I would always put on our "makeup" and get our plastic and vinyl purses (I had a Minni Mouse one) and strut around the cul-de-sac pretending to be ladies of luxury. We even smoked real cigarettes in my friend's room. XD
Then, I
grew up and turned to a double-digits gal (I turned 10). I went to the dollar store near my house with my best friend and we bought some bright red lipgloss and fake red nails. We put these on and danced around her livingroom to NSync and Britney Spears and the Spice Girls. One day, I dared to go to school fabbed out in this and I ALMOST got to class with it all on. but my teacher saw me and told me to take it all off. ~le sigh~
I grew much older. In fact, a whole year older, and I got my very own bra! Not some retarded training bra... that was so third grade. I was in six grade now, and that meant I had boob...lets. And that meant I could wear bras! And platform Soda shoes! Even though my mom bought me HIGH heels since I was 6... all the other girls finally got their own high heels and we could finally talk about it with eachother!
I turned 13.. and my booblets turned to B cups.. and my age was a TEEN. so, this, of course, meant it was time for a pushup bra! and low cut shirts! And tight pants! AND real makeup!
I turned Goth and wore corsets and short skirts and tall boots and lots of makeup. I wore tons of black eyeshadow and eyeliner and deep red lipstick.
It was fun.
I turned 16 and my makeup got more colorful. I wore purple and blue eyeshadow, bright glittery lipgloss, crazy colored hair. I showed off my tatas! (I was already a D by then) Wore thongs! Used tampons! 16 year old me was always on-the-go.. I was a rainbow blur.
18 came and I got a job... got a life... got bored. My makeup was the same as it is now: beige, tan, and 'mushroom' eyeshadow, no liner (usually), mascara, and chapstick.
I gave away my many boots. (Though, I saved my combat boots in case I feel a revival coming on!) I wear simple clothes.. stuff I would've never shopped at when I was 13: American Eagle, Forever 21, H&M, Aeropostale, Macy's, Gap.
Most of my peers are finally embracing their womanhood. Some finally have gotten those C cups they've always wanted.. some D cups.. and they've grown into those low cut tees. They either wear tons of makeup.. or almost no makeup.
In fact.. a few months ago I assisted my friend in finding her very first pushup bra.
