Good headphones can make music sound great. I have a pair of Sony mdr-v600, the last model before they became unbearably gaudy, flashy. I love to listen to cds that have a layered rich sound: Radiohead, later Beatles, Nine Inch Nails, Funkadelic, Prefuse 73, Stereolab, etc. Headphones should be used sparingly though, hearing loss is a real possibility.
