I wouldnt say he is the key midfielder - Scholes and Carrick should be the starting middle two. That said it was a harsh sending off, he did lunge in from behind but I think he got ball first. Thought Vidic was superb tonight, and Arsenal looked like they can do sometimes, lots of skill and pretty toothless, couple of individual errors early on killed the game as a contest really.
The rule about the decision being final is pretty stupid also. The ref should be able to review any card he gives in the game and rescind it afterwards if he see's fit.
