AT&T is on GSM network and uses a chip in the phone that can be unlocked to use on any GSM network. So basically you can only use it with T-Mobile or AT&T.
Verizon, Alltel (same company now) Sprint and US Cellular are on CDMA and do not use chips and cannot be unlocked.
