I bought one and I'd recommend it.
Before I'd just shave around my shaft, maybe 5mm, then my sack. Now I use the bodygroom for it with no guard attachment, and if anything it seems smoother. With a razor I just go with the grain so I don't get ingrown hairs. This doesn't result in them, and seems to give a smoother finish than the "harsh" feeling of the shaved bits.
I'm not scared to use a razor on my sack though and it's a bit quicker as you otherwise have to stretch it out which is awkward to do one handed. I've found it's easier to nick your sack with the bodygroom than a razor really.
However, it's in its element for trimming, although I accidentally used the medium length guard, and ended up looking like a pornstar; clearly my view and Phillips' vary in this regard
