You example aside, it's more disingenuous to say Xerxys is paying for it.
We all pay taxes; the state spends it on items in a budget. We are not customers of the welfare system. We aren't paying for it as individuals. It is paid for by the state. The difference might seem trivial to you, but it is an important distinction.
To say "
I'm paying for
your food stamps!" is a bit silly when you consider that what you paid for an individual's food stamps probably amounts to a fraction of a cent.
But let's not get caught up on where the money is coming from; this is more about where it is going and why...and whether it should be stopped.
