They are called
lenticular clouds, and are very interesting clouds indeed. They get me excited - years ago when I flew gliders, the sight of wave clouds on the lee side of my mountains meant I would soon be riding nature's up elevator. Got a bit past 16,000 once before the lack of onboard oxygen forced a descent.
