I get that everyone wants to think that Pakistan can be a part of the solution to the war in Afghanistan, but it can't. It can't. Pakistan is a failed state. Zia-ul-Haq and the "Islamafication" of the government set Pakistan on an unavoidable path with what we're seeing now. And the US's support of militarizing has only made matters worse.
The one and only way for Pakistan to get back on the right track is to put the power into the hands of the citizens, but that's looking less and less likely every day. Musharraf will not lead Pakistan to democracy. Invading secretly (as long as no one reads the New York Times), will antagonize the already unstable and ambitious military. If we're lucky, there will only be a few riots before there is a united scream for change among the populace.
