I'd like to recommend an excellent
book
Good calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes, who is a science journalist, not a diet doctor. The cover shows a picture of a slice of toast with a big pat of butter on it. This is not a diet book, but a history of nutrition over the ages and in different cultures. Has quite a bit of science in it, and is a fairly long book, but has a lot of useful information and will challenge a lot of assumptions. Worth the effort to anyone who might have more than a casual interest in food and nutrition. It should be available at Amazon.com and the usual other book type places.
