free your dvd player. sometimes when I travel to hotels I look up their player and make it region free 
the only problem you may have is if the DVD is region 2 and PAL, most can play it back still but it will be a bit odd shaped, IF it was PAL encoded. Some say PAL and don't encode it. Since I travel and get DVDs from all over the world, I bought a region free DVD with NTSC and PAL. It's a nice thing, not expensive either.
