BMW Art Car World Tour
The BMW Art Car World Tour has appeared at major museums around the globe since September 2006. Now it is arriving in New York City for a limited-engagement, two-week visit.
We invite you to view four classic BMW Art Cars, each painted by one of the greatest painters of the 20th century – Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Robert Rauschenberg and Roy Lichtenstein.
BMW is also proud to present an interpretation of the joy of driving by artist Robin Rhode in collaboration with director Jake Scott. This work eloquently captures the exhilarating performance of the all-new BMW Z4 Roadster.
Vanderbilt Hall, set in New York City’s Grand Central Terminal, provides a magnificent setting for the collection.
Dates: March 24 – April 6, 2009
Location: Vanderbilt Hall, Grand Central Terminal
Park Avenue at 42nd Street
New York, NY
About BMW Art Cars
The idea of the BMW Art Car was born in 1975, when art auctioneer and racing driver Hervé Poulain entered the 24-hour Le Mans race for the first time. Seeking a link between the worlds of art and racing, Poulain asked his friend, artist Alexander Calder, to paint his 480-hp BMW 3.0 CSL. The result was so remarkable, BMW decided to continue this collaboration. Today there are 16 BMW Art Cars by prominent artists, from 10 countries spanning five continents.

I've not ever had the opportunity to see any of these vehicles in anything more than just in a magazine. I'm going to have to make the trek out to see these vehicles. The last vehicles I saw there was a Yugo art exhibit back in the early 90's.
Take a look at the link in the article for the timeline of all the cars and a video montage.
Below are some youtube vids I found but they don't convey the breadth that the link above does.
