I agree with it likely being the detergent
I also had a case once where I bought new bed sheets and put them on my bed without washing them... I had never broken out in hives before and at that point, I broke out everywhere it seemed. We eventually narrowed it down, washed the sheets, and everything was gravy from then on. While I had them, benadryl seemed to work the best.
