Ew, bad, bad, bad. "I have no one to go with" is kind of like the old "I don't want to go alone." Both sound like you are not asking for a date, just generic company. But it's better than if you'd said "I can't find anyone to go with me." That one stinks of 'i've exhausted all other options and you're my last resort.' Don't use that one.

Not necessarily. It didn't sound to me like he was asking her on a date, or even on a friendship outing. It sounded more like an exchange of information.
My coworkers and I do that every Friday night as we're heading out the door. "what ya doing this weekend?" "Camping. You?" "Movies." "Cool. Later."
