Watching movies can help, especially if you follow along with the dialogue when you can. Watch it once with the subtitles if necessary, but after that first viewing, you know the story, so zap the subtitles and zero in on the sounds. I know some very good non-native speakers who have used this type of strategy to learn English. Singing is also good practice.
