It probably does matter. Curiously though, the best, sexiest and most inventive lover I've had, had a much smaller-than-average penis. And he had the proportional problem as well, in that he was a tall and heavily built man. I've heard other women say that men with smaller dicks tend to be kinkier - and I'm told small penises are more sensitive. Big dicks have visual impact, but a man is more than a penis, thank God.
