Why not just use the folder system built into your operating system? It's 100% user configurable, totally searchable, easy to edit... gone are all the problems and gripes I've had with iTunes and other stuff that tries to manage my media for me.
I use Picasa (from google) to manage the pictures (saaaay... uploading a few dozen pictures to an online album and downsizing all of them at the same time).
For the average user, Photoshop is only really good for editing individual photos. I use it, but only for that occasional artsy project.
