This has been rumored for a while now. It's not surprising at all. He just wasn't there mentally. He was too aggressive when he shouldn't have been and not enough when he should have gone for it.
Really, I think it's a move to try and convince Favre to come back next year. Him and Mangini didn't get along from what I've heard. Not sure why they would want him back considering that he just doesn't have it anymore. He should have stayed retired.. but then if he hadn't come back, Pennington would never have landed in Miami's lap.
The team wasn't going in the right direction. They were horrible the final 6 games or so. There was no way they should have lost the division or not made the playoffs. The team has no pass rush and isn't too hot on defense all the way around. They need a better O-line and a quarterback. They need a coach who will make better decisions. Take a look at Mangini's record. He's under .500. He's been there long enough. They have a few people in mind already to look at, including Bill Cower (not going to happen) so really, not making the playoffs was just the final nail in his coffin.
Whatever, as a 'phins fan.. I'm not complaining at all. Pennington got his revenge and I get to finally cheer my Dolphins in the playoffs again.
