I'm sick of snow like we get it here. I want to move to the Pacific Northwest, where they get some snow, but not 8 feet of it every winter.

I missed this one by going to Montreal. I think i spent a good chunk of the last week shoveling. Snow wouldn't be such an ordeal without cars. Shoveling the walk is easier than shoveling the driveway(s).
I also think it would be better to have the city handle the sidewalks rather than making it individual responsibility. I don't mind shoveling, but it gets to be a bit of a hassle for older people. Even if they can afford it, it's not always easy to find someone to do it. I sometimes end up driving down to Whitewater to shovel for my parents because their shovelers were booked or didn't show up. That's really kind of goofy.
What i'm trying to say is that our experience of 'snow' is more than simply meteorological; it's very much conditioned by our social arrangements.

i will soon go to the tiny town annual gentleman's lunch to begin bracing for this eventuality. for the event itself, i am armed with a bottle of single malt and a stack of books. bring it on, i say.

Gentleman's lunch? What's that?
