My condolences and sympathies. I dont care for rats at all, but you obviously have a good heart and I feel bad it's breaking for the loss of loved ones.
Dont beat yourself up, it was a mistake, not intentional or malicious. Let it go, and dont break your rules again. There are many many more rats that will need to be saved.
