Long story short, I've somehow managed to blow one of the gas rings on the bolt of my M4. Its a DPMS bolt/bolt carrier in a LMT upper, sitting on a Wilson Combat lower if that makes a difference.

Ive been around M4's for a bit and have never seen this before, though I assume its not unusual. What causes this? How can I prevent it in the future?

Im thinking of replacing the three rings with the one-piece version Midway is selling. Does anyone have any experience with this?
