I have found that tall leather boots that have a little elastic panel on the side, are what work for my "athletic calves." I've been wearing the same style of Nine West boots for that reason, for several pairs now... they've held up quite nicely, and are the only ones I could find that would fit my leg.

Keens, I love 'em!!! They're a little pricey, but oh-so-practical, and work with a lot of outfits. Mine are not sandals, just closed-toed walkers, and I've had them for 3-4 years now and will finally have to replace them (probably with another similar pair). Yes for toe bumpers, too!
