After they get your baseline, ask them about peanut butter. It helps manage diabetes, particularly in type 2 cases.
That and cinnamon. Not cinnabun, but cinnamon. It think it's available in pill form, but chewing on a stick might help you feel full. Cinnamon actually drops your levels.
