I don't trust them.
I'd rather just spend extra money when the time comes for something like a more fuel-efficient car or a geothermal HVAC system in a house that will save energy AND resources AND my own money then throw money at my guilty conscience and have it MAYBE go for a good cause.
Just like so many other things in this country, though, there aren't enough honest people to allow this to fail.
