It did appear to attract widespread support among blacks and latinos...:

...and nearly every other demographic except women, young voters and voters with post-graduate education.
The appeal was simple and direct....scare the voters into believing that it would mandate teaching about homosexuality in schools and force gay marriages to be performed by churches if requested.
