Concealment and intent
Interesting things to consider.
In a lot of areas around the non metro areas of the country where things go on traditional common law, intent is the rule that many local LEO's go by.
For instance a man can carry a switchblade without problems if he has a disability that prevents him from using both hands. ( in many places)
The disabled can use a crossbow for hunting, (again, in some areas) but not those without disability.
On the other hand I have been told off the record by several different officers in different juridictions that someone not looking for trouble or causing trouble, but who gets into trouble with a switchblade, will probably simply have it confiscated but not charged (but may even able to get it back later without too much trouble) Much of it pertains to perceived threat and or incitment to violence. The same generally extends to many other weapons that are not concealed firearms. Brandishing of course gets you noticed and may carry its own penalty.
I don't know if this happens at SCA events, but I have noticed at Civil War reenactments sometimes local sheriffs deputies get into the act off duty in period costume as , "battlefield constables"
In locations in the South there were local officers that were coming out to make sure the dead werent looted, civil order was maintained, act as safety officers to make sure things don't get out of hand and in support of provost marshals. If you have someone like this you might ask them.
Also by leaving the matter a gray area, it ends up with the discretion of local prosecutors if it is a criminal matter. In other words "your mileage may vary"
In a lot of places the following equipment would probably get more scrutiny however.

Another option, (where self defense is concerned) less obvious and more practical concerning real life use would be this. These are in use by the secret service here and diplomatic protective service, as well as the Philipine Presidential Protection Service.
