Yeah you need to just read the reviews for each card to see if it's quiet. The loudness can even change between brands so a specific model may not be quiet across the board.
BTW yeah it is great how cheap memory is. I bought my 2 GB of DDR2 800 memory for $250 2 years ago and I thought it was a great deal. Now it's $25 at some places.
