There's a distinct difference between an inanimate object and a living, breathing person, as Seaver pointed out. A dildo is definitely not preferable over my partner. However, there are ways that we incorporate sex toys (typically ones that vibrate) into our sex life, both together and separately. For instance, he likes using toys on me while I give him a blowjob. It's not necessarily an either/or proposition.
