Aside from really talented actors (well...even most talented actors) get paid way too much. Even though I love acting & theatre myself, I wouldn't WANT to be paid that much. I don't think any price would make me want to be bombarded by paparazzi, interviews, people taking things out of context, being in tabloids or having nonsense rumors going around, and not having privacy, and the opportunity to lose myself.
But, in this case- it's the economy. Businesses are going downhill, so a lot of people are being laid off or having to spend more money on gas & groceries, therefore, not having extra money to go see movies at the theatre, buy magazines, etc. We are comfortable checking the internet, watching E News, or waiting half a year to rent a movie and watch it at home with their already-purchased big-screen digital tv's. People are realizing that they have what they need in the comfort of our own homes for cheaper. Hell- it's what WE do. The only time we go to the movie theatre is when a BIG action flick is out- in fact, I think we've only been to the theatre twice this year. It's just too expensive! Same with kids' flicks- I hesitate going unless it's a decent flick with good reviews, otherwise it's a waste of my money and time, even if my kid enjoys it (which they enjoy just about everything). They can wait to see it at home when it comes out. That's just how I've been for the longest time. So I'm not surprised that there is a Movie Star Stock and that it's plummeting. It's a chain reaction. But it is interesting to hear and see what will happen or what actors do/think as things worsen.
