Movie Stars on the Downfall?

I have wondered for years how come actors can make such huge pay checks. I love acting, and the theatre, don't get me wrong. But I have always thought the amounts "movie stars" earn are excessive. Kind of like football players. Of course, the pay has to do with the amount of attention they command with the public, and how many tickets they help to sell.

With movies being made at such high prices, and having such high returns, of course the actors want to make a buck, and of course there are so many places that American/Western movies get shown, that they're bound to generate obscene amounts of revenue.

But it seems that is starting to change. I agree that audiences today are more fickle, and less likely to waste their time paying attention to movie stars. They are also less likely to waste money on watching them in the cinema, or buying magazines, merchandise, etc. that refers them. We have less time to daydream, and less disposable income.

I think this is a good thing. I still want to see "movie stars", but in a more humble role, in higher quality dramatic films, and less popcorn action, please. I'm not sure that will happen, seeing as the current tendency socially is that what is disposable is good. So anything that delves deeper will be hard pressed to resist.

Do you think "movie stars'" paychecks are over-inflated? Do you think we will see less of them on our screens because of current trends?

Our soul from us is infinitely far.
However much we give our thoughts the will
To be our soul and gesture it abroad,
Our hearts are incommunicable still.
In what we show ourselves we are ignored.
The abyss from soul to soul cannot be bridged
By any skill of thought or trick of seeming.
Unto our very selves we are abridged
When we would utter to our thought our being.
We are our dreams of ourselves, souls by gleams,
And each to each other dreams of others' dreams.
