One could skip the hardware and run a program like speedfan. Just need programmable fan headers (most modern motherboards have them).
Another option is to see if your BIOS has thermal controls already, and you just need to enable them.
What do you mean you need it for your papers? I'm lost there.
edit: If you must go the hardware route, simply buy one that's the same dimensions as your stock one, or better yet a more efficient heatsink with a speed-controlled fan (rheostat control if all else fails, like a sunbeam rheobus).
If none of the above makes sense to you, I advise you take it to a PC shop or other specialist and let them do it.
