Being that you are eighteen, you don't actually have to tell her, or ask her anything. You can just go out and buy one if you wanted to.
I am not sure I, personally, would tell my mother I wanted a sex toy. Likely I would just out and buy one.
I think if your mum were to happen upon it one day she wouldn't be surprised. It's possible she wouldn't even bring it up with you as she may be more embarrased about it than you!
So go out and buy one, no need to talk to your mum about it!
