I have a Canon EOS300D (a.k.a the Digital Rebel) and have had satisfactory results with lots of different lenses, most of which were on the inexpensive end of the spectrum. I don't know you too well and you didn't specify how advanced you are as a photographer or what your budget is, but there are some lenses which many Canon photographers seem to favour.
The 50mm/1.8 is a great, inexpensive lens for portrait or indoor photography. The old EF 28-135 IS Ultrasonic is an excellent mid-price walkabout zoom lens, and I've heard that the EF-S equivalent is pretty good too... thinking of picking it up actually. I borrowed a 70-200 f/4 L IS from a pro once and it was an amazing lens for telephoto shots, but pretty pricey.
