Probably some kind of bias by the writer though there are different kinds of foot massage. The more intimate kind, which is more a way to give non-sexual pleasure than to help alleviate any strain or stress, I would be hesitant to perform on another persons SO without their prior consent.
But if the person in question has sore feet I wouldn't even think twice about helping them out.
