You get used to seeing people walking around with guns after awhile and it's not big deal. I felt very safe when I was there among the Israelis. Seeing Arabs on the other hand, not so much, especially if they were carrying a backpack. A little sad but true. My father was in a cafe when a bomb went off in Tel Aviv some years ago. We are very lucky he was not hurt.
Visible guns become part of the normal landscape and promote a very safe environment.
