Hey guys, remember the episode of Firefly where Inara goes to the ball with that rich dandy, and then Mal and Kaylee end up there too because they're trying to score a job, and then things get a little heated between Mal and the dandy, some insults are dropped about money changing hands and then BOOM! Mal decides to deck the guy? Remember how later, in a private moment with Mal, Inara sums up the very same conundrum we are all faced with here? "You'll lay a man out for implying I'm a whore, yet you keep calling me one to my face."
What was Mal's response? "I might not show respect to your job, but he didn't respect you. That's the difference."
...So what I'm hearing a bunch of you saying is that it would have been a way better episode if Mal had been all, "Haha, yeah! She
is a whore! Let's get drinks, man." What an awesome idea! Nobody gets hurt (well, except Inara but she's just a woman) and everybody gets to play happy and not discuss uncomfortable topics! Seriously, I think you guys are on to something - somebody go tell Joss Whedon, STAT.
