help finding exciting, pumpin', bassy, almost staccato metal
It is hard to describe, but it seems like one common denominator in the metal that I like (though not the only thing) is that metal is EXCITING, deep, loud bass, that is more staccato. It seems like a lot of today's alternative metal is just a lot of sustained chords that are never hit particularly hard on the bass.
a band that shows this well, I think is Disturbed. where they have a lot of short low riffs along with chords in a song. Although I sort of find this in Nu metal, I don't like a lot of this genre because I don't like the angry repetitive stuff, like slipknot where it is just a fast repeated riff over and over again shouting something. Same goes for a lot of death metal it seems. It seems to loose musicality when it does this. But other than that it seems like Nu metal is the closest genre to what I am describing. there have been a few other Nu metal bands that are fairly good like Adema's earlier stuff.
I guess I just don't like growling when it is purely growling and screaming vocals. Though I don't mind rough vocals as long as it is not death metal. like tool or disturbed or seether or heck basically anything
Lacuna coil's most recent album has a lot of bass, and it is faster and more energetic (not that their previous stuff was bad, I like the slower gothic metal too)
Rammstein and oomph do this pretty well, I have heard Rammstein's style as being like a train with a chugga chugga sound. However I can't get past the fact that they are singing in german I don't know why, I also don't like it when they are critical of america. It is okay when an american band does it but it kinda creepy when a german band does it :P
I have found a lot of good metal bands that don't have this quality particularly, but it is this quality, a lot of loud bass that has a lot of interspaced short riffs among the chords that makes metal exciting to me.
I am not sure if my post makes any sense, hopefully it does.
