Pineapple Express: 4/10

I'm normally a Judd Aptow fan but it lacked the fluidity of Superbad, the charm of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the originality of 40 Year Old Virgin, and the timing of Knocked Up.

It was completely unoriginal, the plot had no life, the Rogen/Franco improv scenes (all of them) were not funny, most, if not all of, the jokes fell flat, and it was not charming, cute, or endearing. It was void of every characteristic that is usually present in one of their films. Rogen, after awhile, starts to lose direction; his improv skills are great but there is an arrogance to his style that leaves no room for connection at points. There is something very visually open about Steve Carrel's improv that he lacks; I think it's his age. He can do better and I'm praying he does; he is becoming the "I'll put myself in it because I can" guy. Bad idea.
