Harrell promptly blew out his back and looks like a complete bust.

My suspicion is that Thompson and/or McCarthy pushed Favre out at the end of 2007 to get their guy in. I don't think it sat well with Favre, who later decided to fight it, and that's what produced the drama. The "tampering", team mobile phone, and the waffling stories were false and later retracted, but they had their effect. The mood in Wisconsin is very anti-Favre. The newspapers and fans seem to be angry that Favre fought back.

I was mildly curious about Rodgers and the team until this crap came out. Now i'm hoping for the fans turn on Thompson and McCarthy, which will happen if Rodgers tanks and/or Favre has a year like last year.
Here's my take; it's settled now so I can go for it.

Favre was asked three years ago by the Packers (when Ted and Mike began after Mike Sherman destroyed us) to stay long enough to develop a franchise quarterback or return the team to the glory years; that is was an unhappy situation but if Rodgers could learn from someone, it would be him. They knew he had it in him, and they promised him that under them they would turn the team around. He accepted.

Favre, every year since then, has said "Well Fellas, I think I'm ready to pack it in" and they would say "No, Brett, we really need you to stay, we are almost there. Aaron is close but not ready, and the team is so close to being a super bowl contender. Please, please stay one more year". Finally, it reaches a point where they are a superbowl contender, Rodgers is developed, and Favre says "I'm done fellas". They responded with something like:

"We knew this was coming. You've done so much for us and you've done everything we could of ever asked of you. You're incredibly talented and we are finally at a level where we won't fail without you. We want you back but know that if you need to quit, we can make it".

That was them pushing him out the door. My only problem with it is that Favre knew it was coming. Even worse, they didn't ever actually "push him out the door" (Fuck Bus Cook is a goddamn drama queen; I always hated that douche), they just didn't beg. Favre got upset. I think that's when Favre changed from "Down home boy with a heart of gold" to "Superstar". It upset me and a lot of fans.

Then it kept getting worse. The Packers would release diplomatic and polite/respectful replies to the media and Favre would sit there and rip them apart; not the team player I wanted him to be in my heart.

And when he came back I thought "Come on guys, take him back, let him compete" which they were willing to do but he just wouldn't put his emotions aside. McCarthy is a great coach, and Ted is a diamonds in the rough GM; they've created a wonderful team. But they did it intelligently; they didn't build it around Favre.

Favre is my hero, he is a legend; he'll go down in history as one of the best quaterbacks ever (debate it all you want but he is). But this isn't all The Packer's fault. If anything, I'm siding with the Pack.

Now: Rodgers is talented. He's mobile, has a strong arm with great deep ball accuracy. He moves the pocket a little too much which will come with game experience. He reads defenses well and is a great leader. He has an amazing work ethic and a great attitude. His feet need work because his drop is a little quick and he needs to stay healthy but remember that was when Sherman had traded away their whole line that he got hurt. he reminds me a lot of Ben Rothlisbeger; except his forty is better and he his deep ball isn't as good.

He is going to be a great quarterback. If he performs badly then he does. He's still my quarterback.

Either way we have an incredible team this year (Corey Williams was disposable. He was good but we are deep and we needed a lot out of this very, very deep draft class). I think we have the chance of going far.

I'm pissed that we didn't get a Corner out of the trade though. We need a nickel badly.
