I will admit that I have seen a lot of supply guys running around with the newest gear available...while the men for whom it was intended go without.
However, Don't knock the rails and MOLLE just because you saw people doing things they didn't need to be doing with it.
Good kit is very important and very usefull...At least when your body armor doesn't look like a yardsale. When you use the right stuff for the job, you have easy access to all the important stuff, it is compact against your body, and stays put until you need it.
It is expensive because you are paying for every little piece to be over engineered so it won't crap out on you when you are depending on it.
