A little different, yes. But I think this is not so much about whether it can be controlled and more about whether it is okay to ridicule.
I don't think it's okay, for example, to call one "Fatty" on the basis that they weren't born that way and could maybe (yes, maybe) not be so fat one day.
In regards as to whether they're at fault, there is this bit of information:
