I can easily relate to that. I mix 'em up for variety...plus one of my boys prefers Pat's, the other Geno's, so we alternate. Apparently they aren't bold & brave enough yet to split up and each go their own way, though I have suggested that since they are literally across the street from each other, so whose ever turn it is to choose, we all go there.
One of the reason I've eaten a lot more at Pat's is because I had been going to Pat's for years before Geno's even existed...Geno's opened in 1966. If after a long day bar hopping (normal bars close at 2am in Philly) you just have to have a cheesesteak, there you go, a choice at any time of day or night.
But if it's "normal business hours" to the rest of the world, I have to say that in my opinion there are at least a couple better places for cheesesteaks in Philadelphia. Sadly, one of my all time favorites, Dalessandro's in East Falls, is now totally different than it was years ago, operated by someone other than the originals, and is not worth going to.
I'll take pictures and post facts of "my favorite cheesesteak" in that thread you just started. I have other favorite foods I'll post, too. Now my stomach is starting to get hunger pangs, damit.
