How's the development now adays at Akumal? When I was there in the late 1970's there was nothing on the beach except a thatched roof open air bar and all else I recall was one large "house" on the bay at the northern end where it meets the ocean...I think they said it used to belong to British Royalty and at that time it was a "bed & breakfast" sort of place with a few rooms to rent...very nice place to stay.

No, but you're pretty damn close. And this place too has been "found" by way too many tourist for me, though not nearly as well know as Xel-Ha or Xcaret. Those are more theme park then where I am. I'm more sleepy little beach town.
