ok so marlene dietrich's classic "lili marlene" a great favorite of fascists and fascisant gym-bunnies (thanks for the expression, dr bindujeet) everywhere.
and then soft machine's "why am i so short?" which is a fine thing but not the tune i was looking for, and which i may at some future date find if i remember that this search was not followed to the bitter end but rather landed elsewhere, though in the same general area.
