When I say grip athlete, I really meant athletes who want to improve their grip. Many athletes and trainers believe that we are capable of lifting more weight than usual, it's just grip strength that is holding us back. If your grip can't keep up with the rest of your muscles then you will be bottlenecked by your grip strength.
I do know that there are competitions where you do bar-bending, hold weights as long as you can, etc. I don't know a lot about them but they do exist.
