for the past several years (since 05, I think) I've been using WinRar 3.51, which was downloaded as a free trial version (40 days). There is a nag screen at startup, but other than that, this trial version is still working. Now granted, some of the more advanced functions (password protecting an archive, for example) don't work, but archive compressing and uncompressing (i.e. the main function of the program) is still going strong.

this may have changed in the interim, I don't know, but thats how it used to be.
