I had a ton of nicknames in HS and college, mostly because my full name has 10 syllables, which provides lots of opportunity for abbreviation. Even saying my full first name every time gets old. I always enjoyed the teasing, for the most part. Strange thing is, since coming to Iceland, I don't really have a nickname (and my name is 2/3 Icelandic!). They only give nicknames based on the first name here, whereas in the US it tends to be last-name based, I found.
I also had a few memorable nicknames, based on my maiden name, given to me by the high school students I taught in 2002-03. That was a lot of fun... basically they added -izzle fo' shizzle to the end of my last name, and was hilarious. I felt like the cool teacher when I would hear that ring down the hallway before class.
