We're only moving about half a mile from our current location. The deal is that my parents are on the verge of retirement, and they've always wanted a historic home in a real town--right now they live in the boondocks of Washington state. They dislike it because it's overly conservative and they have to drive 20+ miles to get anywhere. So they came down a few months ago and looked around my town to see if there were any houses they liked, because they thought the community fit the bill as to what they were looking for. They were just trying to get a feel for the market, but ended up seeing this Tudor Revival and falling in love with it. Badabing, badaboom...next thing I know they've refinanced their current house and they've bought this one. My SO and I will get to live in for a year to two years and work on it for them--it needs some love. It's very exciting!
Mostly my mother is excited about the fact that this house is 2.5 blocks from the hippie food co-op, a coffee shop, and a small garden center; it's 5 blocks to Fred Meyers and another coffee shop, and only 6 blocks or so to Oregon State University and Monroe Street, with lots of bars and restaurants. It's also right across the street from a bus stop, and the bus line goes downtown (though at 1.5 miles, it's easily bikeable or walkable). I'm excited to stay in town but move to a much nicer house in a nicer neighborhood, where I can actually have cats and a garden.
